The 73 year-old released a statement saying: “My primary goal is to keep healthy so I can continue singing for the next decade or longer. These are challenging times with challenging decisions that have to be made.” Nicks is not the only performer to have pulled out of events fearing health and safety, with metal band Limp Bizkit also cancelling remaining dates on their USA summer tour.
“I want everyone to be safe and healthy and the rising Covid cases should be of concern to all of us!” the singer added.
“While I’m vaccinated, at my age, I am still being extremely cautious and for that reason have decided to skip the five performances I had planned for 2021.
“I’m devastated and I know the fans are disappointed, but we will look towards a brighter 2022.”
Nick’s health concerns have also got in the way of performances in the past.
In an interview with Variety back in 2019 she revealed that she performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony whilst battling double pneumonia.
The day after the performance the Go Your Own Way singer was rushed to a Philadelphia hospital where she spent a week in ICU.
Due to previous experience and now vulnerable lungs, it is no surprise that the singer is taking extra precaution.
She warned: “It’s a virus. It doesn’t care what side you’re on. It’s going to kill you. And I’ve said that for me, if I get it, stanton in lipitor it’ll kill me.”
If battling through pneumonia and Covid wasn’t enough, Nicks has also fought drug addiction.
She was partying so hard and developed a strong addiction to cocaine in the 1970s, on one occasion she nearly went blind.
On the night in question the band were celebrating the first night of the Rumours World Tour after the release of their eleventh album.
Celebrations lasted for 48 hours straight and due to Nicks forgetting to take out her contact lenses, her cornea was worn down leaving her at risk of permanent blindness.
It seems as she has gotten older Nicks has started to prioritise her health, taking no chances with Covid.
As of August 12th 59.9 percent of the American population have had at least one dose of Covid vaccination.
This is compared to 90 percent of the adult population in the UK who have received their first vaccine.
Covid cases, particularly cases of the Delta variant are still increasing in both countries.
In the UK, the festival and event scene has faced the same reality as that of our American counterparts.
Although some festivals such as Creamfields and Boardmasters have gone ahead, the biggest festival in the UK Glastonbury was once again cancelled, instead being streamed online.
This is ahead of another change in rules in Britain on the 16th August which will see the last of the Covid restrictions eased.
From then on fully vaccinated people will no longer have to self-isolate if they are contacted by the NHS app or Track and Trace.
