How to get rid of visceral fat: The drink to avoid to lose the dangerous belly fat

Visceral fat is detrimental to your health. And if you’re walking around with a beer belly, the chances are you’re storing too much fat internally too. Here’s what you can do to reduce it.

Dr Daniel Allan explained that “too many calories” – from beer, to wine, and spirits – contribute to belly fat.

“Since an average beer can be more than 150 calories, it doesn’t take long for the calories (and the belly) to build,” he said.

And, did you know that beer can interfere with fat burn? Dr Allan says so.

“Your liver will preferentially burn alcohol instead of fat when it is consumed,” he explained.

That puts a bit of a downer on the whole curry and beers night, then. And men, unfortunately, “tend to store more [fat] in their bellies”.

Are you proud of your rounded tummy? Did it take a while to form and now you look at it, lovingly?

Well, the reality stands that it’s harmful. Beer bellies are linked to an increased risk of an array of diseases.

The chances of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, high cholesterol, erectile dysfunction and fatty liver disease are all linked to beer bellies.

Have a poke of your gut if it’s protruding. How does it feel? Is it very firm?

If so, beware! Dr Allan explained that this “is typically caused by a high accumulation of internal organ (or visceral) fat”.

This type of fat is located inside the organs, and between organs inside the abdomen.

“It is packed in tightly and, as it builds up, it will push the abdominal wall outward, exaggerating the appearance of the beer belly,” added Dr Allan.

As the abdominal wall is made of muscle and tough fibrous tissues, the belly will feel hard.

Combined, these risk factors could significantly shorten your life, but it doesn’t need to be that way.

The first thing you could do is swap your regular beer for a low-calorie version.

Or, alternatively, simply drink less alcohol. Alcohol contains empty calories, meaning the body gets no nutritional value from it.

Fortunately, Dr Allan confirms that “visceral fat can be broken down quicker than other types of body fat”.

And this means the excess weight around your midsection will be the first place that reduces in size.

So, if you want to wave goodbye to your round tum and be a healthier version of yourself, you know what to do.

If you’d like to work off the visceral fat much faster, then aerobic exercise is key.

Persistently working up a sweat, where your breathing gets heavier, is recommended.

Consistent strength training – think dumbbells – combined with aerobic exercise is the “most effective” way to lose the harmful belly fat.

Aerobic exercise includes brisk walking, jogging, running, gardening and swimming.
