3 ways to help prevent premature ejaculation – from wipes to diet

Having a concern about how long you are able to last during sex is a common worry among men.

Premature ejaculation is the most common form of sexual dysfunction in men, often leading to frustration, anxiety and worry.

International guidelines define premature ejaculation as ejaculation occurring within one minute after you start intercourse, according to WebMD.

Fortunately, there are a number of ways to help reduce your risk – here are three to focus on.

Premature ejaculation wipes

In a study published in The Journal of Urology, topical benzocaine wipes for the management of premature ejaculation were further investigated.

Men aged 18-years were enrolled in the research all were heterosexual in a monogamous relationship and who reported suffering with premature ejaculation.

The men were put into two groups with one using benzocaine wipes and the others using a placebo.

After two months, men in the treatment group had significant improvement in intravaginal ejaculatory latency time.

“Compared to placebo, men in the treatment group reported greater improvement in distress relating to intercourse, control of ejaculation, and satisfaction with sexual intercourse over the study period,” noted the study.

Diet

Foods said to help reduce premature ejaculation included:

  • Oysters
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Soybeans
  • Yogurt
  • Spinach
  • Wheat germ cereal
  • Almonds
  • Kidney beans
  • Chickpeas
  • Sesame seeds
  • Beef and lamb
  • Dark chocolate
  • Garlic
  • Peas

Counselling

Talking to a professional about any underlying issues related to premature ejaculation may help too.

Learning behavioural techniques to help delay ejaculation and addressing any relevant psychological or interpersonal issues could be highly beneficial for those suffering.

"It's common to feel embarrassed about discussing sexual health concerns," says the Mayo Clinic.

It added: "But don't let that keep you from talking to your provider.

"Premature ejaculation is common and treatable."
