Could you imagine a society where health professionals are treating depression and PTSD with cannabis? Dr. Julie Holland, M.D., psychopharmacologist and author of Good Chemistry, believes that’s exactly the direction we’re headed.
During the latest Friday Sessions, she spoke with Men’s Health Advisory Board member Dr. Gregory Scott Brown, teva-amoxicillin 500mg capsule M.D., to explain her take on the future of mental health.
Right now, and amid pandemic, we’re at a place where many people are dealing with their mental health struggles by medicating themselves daily. But Holland said that might change sooner than we think; in her book, Holland details the science and research surrounding psychedelics and cannabis and how they can help improve the connection we have with ourselves and with others.
“What we’re going to see over time is that there will be acceptance of cannabis-based medicines and psychedelic-based medicines for the field of psychiatry,” she said. “We’re talking about wellness and there’s real efficacy there. You can’t stop the data and it’s very strong.”
But clinical trials are lacking right now, and of course, everyone has different responses to cannabis. So, while cannabis-based and psychedelic-based medicines are on their way toward FDA approval, you should be smart with your recreational use to avoid hitting the point where therapeutic becomes problematic. How? Holland suggested simply being honest with yourself and the repercussions it’s causing your body. And don’t be afraid to use CBD as an alternative.
