Fat loss and in particular belly fat is a complicated matter. Insulin resistance, appetites and how a body metabolises carbohydrates are all intrinsic when it comes to fat loss. Could one supplement help with all?
Chromium is a mineral that enhances insulin, a hormone that’s important for turning food into energy, said WebMD.
The health site continued: “Your body also needs it to store carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
“At less than 35 micrograms a day, chromium supplements are typically safe for adults.”
Chromium supplements are said to help with the following:
- Lower your appetite
- Help you burn more calories
- Cut your body fat
- Boost your muscle mass.
There’s good evidence that chromium can lower glucose levels and improve insulin sensitivity, although not all studies have shown a benefit.
The supplements work together with insulin produced by the pancreas to metabolise carbohydrates.
These factors are integral for those wanting to shift belly fat.
Several studies have examined whether chromium picolinate may be useful in this capacity.
In an eight-week study, alprazolam kalbe 1,000 μg/day of chromium reduced food intake, hunger and cravings in healthy overweight women.
The researchers reported that the effects of chromium on the brain may have produced these effects.
An analysis published in the National Library of Health, looked at chromium supplements and its effectiveness on belly fat.
After analysing 11 different studies, the researchers found weight loss of only 1.1 pounds (0.5 kg) with eight to 26 weeks of chromium supplementation.
Studies have been conflicting with more research needed.
