Stretchmarks are really common: almost all of us will have a stretchmark somewhere on our body. For some people, stretch marks can make them feel particularly shy about their body. Try these natural home remedies to get rid of stretch marks.
Do your stretchmarks make you feel self-conscious when they’re on display?
First of all, stretch marks are perfectly normal and loads of us have them. Men and women can both get stretch marks after weight loss or weight gain.
However, if you want to try and cover up your stretch marks, why not try these home remedies – you probably already have everything you need.
What are stretch marks?
The technical term for stretch marks is striae, but ‘stretch mark’ is a pretty accurate description of how you get stretch marks.
Commonly associated with pregnancy, stretchmarks are marks where your skin has been stretched rapidly. This is why you often get stretch marks in areas where you have gained weight.
Stretch marks first appear as a thin purple or pink line on your skin, it quickly develops a different texture to the rest of your skin so you can feel them when you run your hands over the area.
Eventually, the stretch marks settle down and lose their colour, becoming pale and even slightly shiny.
It’s very difficult to completely get rid of a stretchmark, but using some home remedies can reduce their appearance so that they’re less noticeable.
If you have any of these common household items in your cupboards, you can make a natural stretch mark remedy.

Microdermabrasion is where you use a scrub – like an exfoliator – to remove the thickest top layer of skin to leave it looking taut and rejuvenated.
Make a sugar scrub by mixing sugar with coconut oil and lemon juice until it has the consistency of wet sand.
Scrub this on to the stretchmarks while you’re in the shower and leave it on for ten minutes before rinsing off.
You should do this a few times a week to see results as they will build up over time.
An extra bonus is that you’ll smell like a delicious shot of Malibu.
Aloe Vera
Pure aloe vera is a skincare staple. This totally natural ingredient can be used to treat many skin conditions from sunburn to eczema.
Applying aloe vera to your stretch marks every day can reduce their appearance over time.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can help to heal skin damage.
Apply coconut oil to your stretch marks every day and you should see them becoming less prominent.
These methods can help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, but they are unlikely to disappear completely.
If the home methods won’t cut it for you, you could look into getting private laser therapy or needling from a dermatologist.
