What the study said

In a study with Toxicological Research, hair growth promoting effects using lavender oil was investigated.

The study noted: “The purpose of this study was to determine the hair growth effects of lavender oil in female mice.

“Changes in hair follicle number, dermal thickness, and hair follicle depth were measured.

“The lavender oil group showed a significant increased number of hair follicles, deepened hair follicle depth, and thickened dermal layer, along with a significantly decreased number of mast cells compared to the other group.

“These results indicated that lavender oil has a marked hair growth-promoting effect, as observed morphologically and histologically.” http://www.toxicolres.org/journal/view.html?doi=10.5487/TR.2016.32.2.103

It’s been said that lavender oil may also help in treating pattern baldness, however more studies on humans need to be conducted.

Scientists also believe lavender oil helps keep hair lice at bay due to its properties which kill the pesky hair critters.

How to use lavender oil for the hair at home

Health experts advise mixing several drops of lavender oil into three tablespoons of carrier oil such as olive oil or melted coconut oil.

Use this oil to then apply directly onto the scalp by gently rubbing it in.

Leave the mixture on for at least ten minutes before washing it out and shampooing as normal.

This process can be repeated several times a week for optimal results.
