Since protective facial coverings have become a huge part of our new normal during this pandemic, we've witnessed myriad creators come up with cool and unique ways to make stylish statements with their masks. One such creator is nail artist Gina Edwards, who's been experimenting with matching her manicures to her face masks for quite some time now. Most recently, she created a stunning pearl-studded look that's so glamorous, it's making us want to try the matchy-matchy trend, too.
Edwards first teased the look on Friday, December 11 via an Instagram video in which she's playing with an adhesive by Cardi B's nail artist, Jenny Bui, of Nails on 7th Salon in New York City. In the background of the video, you can see a flower-shaped organizer filled to the brim with pearl appliques. "These gems will stay in place forever! Thanks to @jennysecretofficial," reads the post's caption.
The finished look features pearl studs in various different sizes, as well as tiny diamond crystals by Swarovski. Edwards posted a photo of the extravagant manicure on Saturday, December 12, with the caption: "Pearls Galore. #nailsbyginaedwards." As if that wasn't enough, she also created a pearl face mask to match her manicure and showed off the full matching moment on her Story.
"When I created the look I was thinking about an extravagant bride looking for a unique nail," Edwards tells Allure via email of her inspiration. "I started out making a mask paying tribute to the late Alexander McQueen collection based back in his early 2000 collections — then as I started to create the nails based off of the mask, I realized a bride could easily slip into this over the top nail look."
To create your own manicure like this at home, all you need to do are get your hands on some pearl studs — such as these from Amazon, which look very similar to the ones Edwards used — as well as some small crystals, like these, and a solid nail glue. You can't go wrong with the Kiss Maximum Speed Nail Glue, which only costs $3.
