Having to look at myself on Zoom all day, every day is frankly getting pretty brutal. I'm a rather confident person, but I still find myself critiquing all the little flaws on my (usually makeup-free) face during back-to-back meetings and virtual social gatherings that just never seem to end. And I know I'm not alone in saying that, with a full year of self-isolating and a long, dark winter season now under my belt, I'm feeling (and probably looking) perpetually tired. I don't really have the energy to put on an elaborate full face of makeup every day, so I'm constantly on the lookout for subtle and easy-to-use makeup products that can give my appearance a small boost without the need for a ton of finesse. One of my new favorites, Joah Beauty's Crystal Glow Tinted Luminizer Stick, is just that.
This $16 K-beauty-inspired product might look like a standard stick foundation, but it sets itself far apart from the pack with very sheer coverage and a shimmery sheen that gives an instant glass-skin effect. What's more: Thanks to its small-yet-diverse 10-shade range, you can opt to buy a shade that's a close match to your skin-tone — or, you can use shades that are lighter and/or darker to highlight and/or contour. I use Creamy Ivory, almost an exact match for my fair skin with rosy undertones.
Because it's so low-coverage and has a texture lighter than a feather, I can apply it in seconds flat just by smearing it all over my face (I never have to worry about overdoing it so I lay it on pretty thick and without much care, to be honest). At that point, I could opt to use the built-in brush located on the bottom side of the stick — which I don't hate — but I prefer to rub it in with my fingers or reach for one of my fluffy tapered brushes to blend it all out. If I'm feeling a little extra, I might put on some blush or bronzer, but because my rosy cheeks still show through, it's not totally necessary and I can skip it for time's sake. And it's so dewy that highlighter is out of the question entirely.
With the Tinted Liminizer Stick's wet-looking finish, I always have to keep in mind that it'll never quite dry down all the way. If I wore it with heavy eyeliner or mascara, it could be prone to a little smudging. But that's not what it's designed for, so I just keep the rest of my makeup light and never have to worry about it. The lack of dryness, actually, is probably what makes it so damn comfortable to wear all day. Regardless, I can do my whole face in five minutes with this stick and see a very noticeable difference in how awake I look — and, in return, how awake I feel.
