Ted, who had his operation in 1990, had turned 90 in June but waited till now to be with his family after Covid restrictions eased. He still has to take eight immunosuppressant tablets daily, but is able to play golf and go clay-pigeon shooting.
The retired company boss, who lives near Leicester and has three grandchildren, is one of very few heart transplant patients in the UK ever to have reached 90. Others have lived for longer following the surgery, with 37 years the UK record.
He had been told he had three weeks to live before the transplant at Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambs.
His surgeon, Francis Wells, was among those at the celebration. It was the first time they had met since the op.
